White Trash Cooking Month! Gourmet Dish #1: Noodle Grunt

(note: Bee added a red pepper to the above-pictured dish.  He thought he was being all 'gourmet-y'.  DON'T GIVE IN TO THE PRESSURE!!!)

I have decided to proclaim October to be "White Trash Cooking Month!"  As such, I will be sharing some of my favorite, easy, make-'em-in-your-double-wide recipes once a week until the end of the month.  I hope you enjoy learning a little about how I ate before Bee mercifully took over the cooking.

First up: the ultimate in comfort food, I am proud to pass along this recipe I got from my mother.  Although my mother is too young herself to be a true 1950's housewife, I am happy to report that she still blessedly instilled in me an appreciation for dinners that involve some form of Campbell's soup or Velveeta.  Or, in this case, Campbell's soup AND Velveeta.

All you need for a delicious meal -- Toxic-Housewife-style!
Noodle Grunt

1)  Bring water to a boil and boil enough egg noodles for about 4-6.  (Double that if Aunt Bertha's coming.)
2)  Fry some ground beef.  Maybe about a pound.
3)  After the beef is cooked, dump in a few little cans (or invest in the bigguns, like I do) of Cream of Mushroom Soup.
4)  Now dump in a package of frozen peas (maybe about a pound, though you could use more if you're one of 'em health nuts from Californy).
5)  Now cube and dump in about half a regular-sized carton (not one of those weenie-ones) of Velveeta.
6)  Once everything's melted together, dump the soupy mixture over the drained egg noodles and combine.
7) For added flair, add a few more chunks of Velveeta on top of the mixture in a pleasing, melty manner.
8)  Watch as your friends and neighbors gobble down the creamy goodness!

Other notes:
  • You can use tuna fish in place of ground beef.
  • You can use cream of chicken in place of cream of mushroom.
  • You can buy a smoked cheddar spreadable cheese at a snotty co-op if you're away from home and can't find a good Walmart for your Velveeta.  It won't ruin the flavor too much.
Happy White Trash Cooking Month!
