Mmmmm . . . Lunch!

Well, we've gotten the chickens outside to their Taj Mahal.  I think it looks fantastic.  Bee finished building it while I was visiting my parents, which tells you that I should go out of town more often in the middle of a project.  Of course, he did a few modifications I've had to undo, which tells you I should never go out of town in the middle of a project.
Then I spent an hour cleaning the bathroom where the chicken box had been when they were indoors.  And not just cleaning, but cleaning.  Remember how I said how messy they are?  Where, there was a thick layer of fine dust all over the bathroom walls, ceiling, floor, faucets, shelves, pictures . . . what once was white was now yellow.  Plus that wonderful wet-bird aroma.  By the time I'd wiped down the entire bathroom for the second time, I was ready to fire up the barbecue.

However, now that they're outside, I've recanted.  We've actually let them out of their pen to wander the yard a few times this week, and it's been really nice to lounge out there with them and watch their antics. Stupid chickens.  One of them found a worm, and carried it around proudly for a bit, but couldn't figure out what to do with it afterward.  Of course, the chicken would be damned if it would let any other chicken touch its prize.

Mr. C enjoys stalking the birds, explaining "I want to kiss a chicken!"

One of our cats, CeCe, has been the most fun to watch.  You'll note him in the upper right corner of the above picture.  He oozes ever closer to the chickens, then pounces within an inch of any one that suddenly flies, then shoots three feet into the air when another chicken rushes up behind him.

After being terrorized by a toddler for years, I think CeCe enjoys having something smaller than him to tease.  Which is kind of too bad: those chicks are going to run him ragged in a few months.
