Gravity Sucks

Everyone just looooves to perpetuate the rumor that the champagne coupe was moulded after Marie Antoinette's left breast.

According to Wikipedia -- the apparent source of all that is worth knowing -- this simply isn't true.  (Although, evidently, Marie had other pottery molded after parts of her anatomy; so it is easy to see from whence the confusion arises.)

I feel bad for Marie.  She gets stuck with the whole "Let them eat cake" quote, and her reputation is further tarnished whenever someone pours some bubbly.  We remember only her supposed frivolity.

Still -- despite the whole losing-her-head thing -- Marie was lucky.  I mean, at least the champagne coupe has immortalized her boobs in a pleasing light.  Obviously -- if she really did pose for the stemware -- she did it long before she breastfed her children.

Otherwise . . . well, let's just assume things would have been different.
