The Joy In Cooking
French Bread |
C'mon, can you blame me? Don't those look fantastic? Mind you, I've no idea how they taste, but the texture-based-on-poking-at-one-with-my-finger is fantastic (crunchy outside, soft and airy inside). I have high hopes it will be a better batch than the one I made for my ex-father-in-law-by-marriage's birthday. I'm waiting for Bee and Mr. C to get home from their shopping expedition so we can try a piece.
I swear: just a piece.
One tiny morsel.
No more "a piece means half a loaf" for me!
In case they don't suck, I'll let you know that the recipe came straight from The Joy of Cooking.
I also made a double batch of my Honey Whole Wheat Bread for this week's sandwiches.
AND I caught us up on our granola. I've already put all the granola in its separate storage facilities (one large jar on the counter, two Tupperwares in the fridge, one gallon Ziplock in the freezer), so I can't impress you with how large a batch I always make to fulfill our family's granola-eatin' needs. But let me show you the bowl I am forced to use to mix up a batch that lasts -- say -- 6-8 weeks in our house:
That's a big bowl! |
That's right: I measured it.
Anyway, THE POINT to this post is to share how extremely proud I am that I made (mostly) healthy stuff to satisfy today's baking compulsion. Not that it'll do any good combating the new theme song Bee has come up for me, sung to the tune of "Super Freak" but cleverly entitled "Cookie Freak":
"She's a very cookie-girl
You know she likes her cream and butter . . . "
Alright, those fantastic lyrics are mine, and quite obviously need to be improved-upon. Perhaps I'll think up better ones while I'm baking this week's Sugarbee Cookie Company selection. My choices, thanks to Taste of Home Cookies:
