Why Am I So Tired Today? - The Dessert Extravaganza! Edition
7 days of baking + 12 desserts made + 3 days of housecleaning + 8 hours of table set up = 1 Major Bitch.
Poor Bee was so sick of me by the afternoon of the Dessert Extravaganza that I'm kind of surprised he's still speaking to me. Luckily, we've pulled through.
The party was a success, if you consider a lot of cake eaten, a couple of business orders, and lots of ego massage 'a success' (I know I do!). As it turns out, it was a good thing we pushed the party back a week, as I needed to bake 1-2 things every day in order to be ready in time. It has certainly taught me that there's no way in hell I'd ever be happy running a full-time bakery. For instance, as thrilled as I was to get an order last night, it meant I had to spend today baking Key Lime Cake, Lemon Blossoms, and a Chocolate Chunk Loaf . . . and I had absolutely no desire to do so after spending the last week in the kitchen.
But I'm excited to have the chance to do some baking in the future.

I would have to say that probably the most exciting part to the evening was the fact that I didn't see Mr. C all night long. He and a bunch of other kids just took off and played on their own. It is so liberating to have him FINALLY be old enough and confident enough to do that!
As you know, I'm kind of a glutton for punishment; mostly because it gives me the opportunity to complain (and you know how I love to whine!). So, two days before the Extravaganza, I decided it was absolutely necessary to add "Make Cake Plates" to my list of things to do.
This is because I happened to see some cake plates for sale at an art store which were made from regular platters that had been glued to vases or candlesticks, and I just thought they were so frickin' cute. So I spent an hour and $12 at the thrift store and came up with the following:

the platters (the clear one is an old microwave plate) |

You'll note my sloppy glue job, done with construction adhesive. It worked pretty well. Except for one that came apart. Luckily, there were no desserts on it at the time.
Anyway, I'm pretty proud of my ghetto cake stands. Now I just have to find a spot to store them.
Alright, I know this hasn't been the most fascinating of posts, but I am absolutely exhausted and must be off to put my feet up. I hope to be back in top form by next week.
Have a delicious (or, as Mr. C says, "Geewicious!") weekend!
